In Gara-1 hanno prevalso, anche abbastanza nettamente, gli Houston Rockets sui Los Angeles Lakers: il giocare senza alcun centro, con PJ Tucker e Robert Covington, rispettivamente 196 e 201 centimetri, come i due lunghi principali, non ha penalizzato i texani contro i giallo-viola, anzi. I Rockets hanno trovato la vittoria soprattutto grazie alla circolazione della palla e ad un allargamento del campo portato allo stremo.
Dopo la partita, su Twitter, Draymond Green ha lanciato un messaggio diretto a tutti i centri, escludendo volontariamente solo Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid e Nikola Jokic. “Tutti i centri che non si chiamano Joel, KAT e Joker dovrebbero tifare a gran voce per i Lakers in questo momento. Se Houston vincesse questa serie il valore dei lunghi scenderebbe ancora di più” ha scritto Green, che qualche anno fa era stato la miccia di questa “rivoluzione” grazie allo small ball dei Golden State Warriors.
